COMPLETE

Upon the completion of the Green Line Extension project in 2022, the MBTA had a need to hire a new class of train operators at an unprecedented scale. This feat offered a unique opportunity to overhaul training materials which had not been updated in decades, and add new forms of learning resources. This project involved creating a unified set of documents with a cohesive visual style across digital and print media that fits into the MBTA’s graphic standard.

While the MBTA’s public-facing graphic style is strictly applied, the use of it behind the scenes is limited. To create a unified look, the T’s system map was used to model new diagrams - such as route cards. Other documents - such as tunnel and yard maps - were influenced by the style used in public announcement billboards.

The system colors already defined for each line were borrowed to create the wide array of colors needed to make maps and diagrams legible. For example, in signal diagrams, the colors displayed are the official colors used for Green Line, Red Line, and Busses (yellow).
